I'm a trainer by profession and have done some work as a columnist for Muscle Evolution which is the biggest fitness magazine in South Africa. I'm also a competitive body builder who have represented my country at World Championship level twice. I also do modelling and have featured numerous on billboard's and magazines for modelling. I'm married with two beautiful girls to a very supportive partner.

Whether using energy to grow the fetus or produce milk, or not getting enough sleep due to a compressed bladder or crying baby, most pre- and postnatal women will admit to feeling tired and not being able to get a good night’s sleep. Physical activity is a highly effective method to boost energy levels and enhance one’s psychological well-being. Depression during and after pregnancy can be a serious mental health issue. It is estimated that 1 in 10 women will be affected by depression within the first year of their child’s life (A. Daley et al., (2008)). A study published in the British Journal of General Practice concluded that exercise may help prevent depression among postpartum women. Furthermore, it is well documented that regular physical activity can help boost mood and improve one’s overall mental well-being.
Initiating or returning to exercise in the postpartum period is important in creating healthy, life-long habits for being physically active. Having a newborn is intensely time consuming and exhausting; however, this is also an opportune time to create new life-long habits such as daily physical exercise. Exercising will not only help manage the mother’s health but also act as positive role modelling for the child.
For women with healthy and uncomplicated pregnancies and for those who have been cleared for physical activity postnatally, physical activity (aerobic and strength-based) is highly beneficial.choosing us as certified personal trainers and a mother of two is great ways to help you get (or stay) on the right path.
